Maternity Photo Session

The air is crisp. The leaves are changing. It is officially fall in Michigan, and I could not be happier. Not just because fall is my favorite season, but because this is the season when Baby K will arrive. Throughout my pregnancy, I’ve loved documenting the growth of our little babe. Up until last week, Zak or my sisters have been the official photographers of the bump, but I always knew I wanted to get professional photos done to capture this time.

My friend and teaching colleague, Jayna Rumble, is to thank for these incredible photos. She has such an incredible eye. If you’re looking for any kind of photos taken, she seriously does it all. Family photos, senior photos, weddings, newborn photos…you name it, she can do it. Check her out at

We were able to do these photos in the most beautiful fall background I could have ever imagined. Zak and I both felt so at peace in the setting. Jayna suggested we take these pictures at the Independence Oaks Nature Center in Clarkston, MI, and I’m so glad we did!

I’m so in love with these photos. I can’t wait to get them printed and put them in the nursery. I love that this baby is going to be able to see just how excited we were to meet him/her! And I’m getting sooooo antsy to find out what this little nugget is!

Here are some of my favorites from the shoot:

// Color: White // Ingrid and Isabel Maternity from Nordstrom // This dress is so comfortable. I like that it has some shape at the waist, but it’s not skin tight. The size guide said I should order a small, but I wanted to make sure it was long enough (I’m 5’9″) and didn’t squeeze too tight around my shoulders, so I ordered a medium and a small. The medium was just right. Nordstrom’s return policy is so great. I just returned the small no problem.

// Color: Champagne // Amazon // I’ve always had a bit of flower child in me! I loved how this flower crown turned out in pictures. I was worried it was a little too big when it first came in, but it worked in front of the camera. I didn’t want to wear it in all the pictures since it’s such a distinct look, but I had to let my inner flower child have her moment!

Quick change!

// Color: Grey // Lulus // So this is not the exact dress I’m wearing in the photos, but it is pretty darn close! The dress I’m wearing is yearssss old! I bought it from Charlotte Russe on sale probably 4 years ago.

// Color: Grey Burnished Leather // Nordstrom // These are my go-to booties in the fall. I have them in black and this light grey/beige color. They come in a nice cognac color, too.

This man. These colors. This moment. I will always remember.

Thank you again to Jayna for making this dream photo session a reality!
